Internation Drivers Permit and Interlock Condition

Postby DJChewbacca » Tue May 24, 2016 10:05 am

Hi,

I didn't see this issue come up when I searched the forum so I hope this isn't a repeat question. Will an interlock condition have an effect on your ability to obtain an international drivers permit and hire cars overseas?

An international drivers permit is basically a translation of your English language licence into another language so you can more easily use your English licence in countries that require it to be translated. Although it is called a Driving Permit it does not really permit anything at all - it simply translates the licence that permits you to drive. The only thing that gets translated is the category of vehicle you are licences to drive, such as motor cycle, articulated heavy vehicle, passenger bus etc. There is no option on the permit for any licence conditions to be noted. They are noted on the licence itself which needs to be produced upon request with the translation. As for interlock conditions, let us know if you meet anyone who cares.

Cheers for the response. I will let you know if I have any troubles overseas.
